An injury helped me re-discover yoga in 1998 -- after not having practiced it since I was a teenager -- and it has had such a profound, positive effect on my life that I committed to leaving my traveling medical sales rep job and sharing yoga with others.
While healing from low back and neck injuries (that weren't improving much), on a whim, I decided to try out a local yoga class. Attending that first class was an "ah-hah" moment! I immediately felt a lovely release and relaxation from the stretches, and the gentle backbends felt sublime -- my spine hadn't moved that way in a long time! The entire experience of yoga felt wonderful. . . I felt alive.
Over time, the myriad benefits continued to unfold. Yoga improved my energy and my mood, helped me be sharper and more efficient, helped me to see my relationships more clearly, improved my posture and tremendously reduced my back pain and -- amazingly -- helped my non-athletic body drop a few pounds and become more fit.
And I have enjoyed helping many others experience these same benefits since I began teaching in 1999. After receiving my initial teacher certification from the White Lotus Foundation in Santa Barbara, I continued studies with a number of Western master teachers to deepen my knowledge and better serve my students.
My training has encompassed hatha flow yoga, breathing techniques, meditation, yoga for seniors, R.A.W. yoga, yin yoga, Thai yoga, and restorative and therapeutic yoga (useful for those with ailments or limited mobility, and those under chronic stress).
Depending on your own personal goals and level of fitness, your private one-on-one yoga session may draw from any one, or a blend, of these disciplines. It will be tailored to your needs, and by the end of the session, I know you'll feel better -- right down to your very cells -- than you did when you started!
